Yard Sale Score!

Good Tuesday Morning!  It is bright, sunny and unseasonably warm in SW Virginia today and I am loving it!  Did you know that last Thursday it snowed a couple of inches here then the very next day got up to 70 degrees??  Crazy!  Snow boots to Swim suits in less than 24 hours!

Saturday morning I needed to go to the dreaded W*almArt to get a few things and passed a gigantic yard sale on the way, so of course I stopped.  It was being run as a fund raiser for the Alzheimer's Assoc.  I don't know if I have told you my mother in law has Alzheimer's.  It is such a cruel disease.  I would not wish this on my greatest enemy.

I am glad I stopped, because I found so much stuff that I just couldn't live without!

A beautiful amber glass cake plate, a flow blue pitcher and the cutest little Peanuts tin,  Do you glimpse that Kiss item in the back??? It's a Kiss Christmas ornament!  And that little change purse is just like one I had when I was a little girl and kept my milk and ice cream money in for school.

Happy Day After Easter!

Yesterday was too much of a whirlwind to even jump in here once to wish you Happy Easter!

It started out as a cool, rainy day but by afternoon had warmed up nicely and was mostly sunny.

All last week I meant to show y'all the Easter Parade going on in my dining room and never got around to it, so here it is now!  All my vintage chickies and roosters strutting their stuff across the top of my buffet!

Of course Mr. Rooster will lead the way.

Here was my favorite Easter creation from yesterday's lunch!  Peeps and fruit kabobs!

See my little lamb planter that they are in?  Ain't it darlin'.  A Goodwill find.

And look what the Easter Bunny brought me!  A new hoe and shovel!  I am so grateful, my old ones had wooden handles that were so old they were leaving splinters in my hands every time I used them.

Yngwie and I ready for church.  I just love seeing my son all dressed up!

Lunch time!  I had eight people for lunch and we had sooooo much food!  My niece is so funny.  She insists that I always put the macaroni salad in the blue bowl.

My sister, my Dad and me!  I am so blessed to still have my Dad around!

Spoolie Swap

Good Friday Morning!!!  It is still crisp and cold in SW Virginia even though Spring begins next week.  Isn't that so exciting? I love Spring!

A shout out to Sandy for hosting an Easter spoolie swap!  I had never made a spoolie before and now I am hooked!  By the way..if you can't find an old wooden spool you can buy them at Joann Fabrics in a pack of 5 or 6 for $2.99.  If you have a half price coupon, you are in luck!

I was very lucky to have been paired up with Michelle at Nook and Cranny for this swap!  Just look at the beautiful things she made and sent to me

My spoolie and decorated box... look at the loveliness of both of them!

And this is the spoolie she made..There is a spool under there!  Look at all the different mediums she used.  Yarn, silk flowers, moss, paper, wood,... just amazing.

And when I opened the box I was blown away by the surprises it held.

How did she know I collect vintage Easter postcards??

It just went on and on..I kept going back and looking at everything again and again..

I love these crystals.  I already had one just like them and I have put them on a chain with a crystal Princess House bead (remember those from the 80's?) in between them and it's so pretty!

Now I can show you what I made. 

This is the spoolie.  The bottom is an old jello mold and I put the spool on top along with a paper cut out and little vintage duck.  I had now made 5 of these..I will get photos soon.  I am giving them to friends and family for Christmas.

This is my decorated box.  I love the vintage bunny on top.  He was one of the vintage picks I bought last year and I am loving crafting with them this year.

I also made this little tote bag.  I transfered an old greeting card image onto it.

I also threw in one of my crocheted peeps, (I have made 10 of them!) some candy, lip gloss, and other assorted an sundry items..

Estate sale season is finally gearing up around here and I am headed to one at lunch today that looks promising!

House of Rust

Good Snowy Wednesday!   Did y'all get a blizzard??  They were calling for 8-12" of snow last night in our area.. Guess how much we got?  Less than 1"!!!  I am perfectly happy about that.  I do not like snow in March, I am ready for flowers and sunshine and warm weather!

My dear husband has been cleaning out our old barn because he is fixing it up for a sort of "man cave" for his cars and boats and decided that he would fix the loft of the barn up with some chairs, TV, drink machine, etc.. for the guys when they come over.  So he came across my old doll house.  I got this when I was about 4 or 5 and brought it with me when I got married in 1980 and stuck it up in the barn and it had been there ever since. 

I guess it's not in too bad of condition for having been stored in a barn for 33 years!

I am missing a couple of interior walls.  They aren't in the barn so they must have been lost somewhere through time. 

I went to a home once that had the bathroom in the bedroom with no walls separating them, but I don't think I would like that!  So, I am going to try and make some walls.  My furniture is slim pickings.  This is a little toilet that I bought at an estate sale.  It advertises Natural Bridge.

I only have a high chair for the nursery.  One of my Lalaloopsy dolls is watching over the baby.

The two Loopsies are having an indoor picnic or tea.  The table and chairs were a gift from Kim with a giveaway that I won.  I could just buy furniture from Ebay but I want to be able to find it "in the wild" as my niece says.  I hope to get to the antique store this weekend and see what I can find.

In other news, the crafting bug is back thanks for the spoolie swap that Sandy is hosting.  I have been having a ball putting together my swap!  I can't show what I have made but here are a few snippet's that may or may not be involved...

Good Thursday morning!  It is a cold, grey morning in SW Virginia today and blowing snow.  Looks like March will be coming in like a Lion around here!

It seems like it is baby season at work.  We have two young ladies who are expecting their first baby and our receptionist is going to be a first time grandmother.  They say it comes in threes!

So that was the kick in the rear that I needed to get my crafting mojo back on.  What is the perfect craft to work on when it's cold and yucky out?  Crocheting baby afghans!!!  I started the first one last week and it is well over half way finished.

Don't you just love baby colors???

I went with the shell stitch because I love how lacy it looks and it's a pretty easy stitch as well.

I went to Joann's this week and bought all the stuff I needed to get started on my Spoolie Swap and with cold weather predicted this weekend, that's what I will be working on!

Rest in Peace Uncle Richard

Good Morning ladies.  It is with a heavy heart that I write about my Uncle's passing.  My Uncle Richard was my mother's favorite brother.  They were closest in age and when they were grown and with families of their own, only lived 2 miles from each other.

Our family will definitely miss him.  Love you Uncle Richard!

Richard  retired from Davis H. Elliot after working there from 1963 to 2010. He is a MCB Seabee 74 in the U.S. Navy. He is a member of #1121 Vinton Moose Lodge, Aerie Eagles #4344, Lakeland Masonic Lodge #190, and Veterans of Foreign Wars and Amvets. He is a member of the Harley Davidson Club and John Deere Club and a past member of the Hardy Rescue Squad.

Happy Valentines Day!

Zero crafting going on in my world right now!  Just can't seem to find the mojo to get started.  I think it's because it is winter.  When I get home from work I just want to fix supper, wash dishes and go to bed!  Well, I really could do without the washing dishes part.

Red Cake Tin

See our huge snow!  LOL!  We got enough to coat the grass and cause the schools to close.  By Saturday afternoon, it was mostly melted.  This was taken from the front of our office at work.

As I have said before, every Sunday evening while I am getting things together for the up coming week, I always check Estatesales.net.  There I can find any sales that I may be interested in, in our area.  Week before last I saw this sale that looked very interesting because there was a cool red cake tin shown in the photo and it was only about 2 miles from work.  I could easily find an excuse to be out when this sale opened at 9:00!  Well I got there at 9:30 and the cake tin was  GONE! I was so disappointed.  I glanced around the rest of the stuff and low and behold there stood my sister who can work from home and she was at the sale too.  I asked her what she was buying but she just grinned and said she couldn't say.  Just this and that.

Imagine my surprise on my Birthday when I opened my gift from my sister and found this!

The red cake tin!  I had mentioned I was interested in it when I had talked with her on the phone but never thought she would beat me to the sale and buy it for me!  Isn't it the cutest one you have ever seen?  Red and white with a cart of flowers...

I have the best sister!

Snowy Friday

We have been freezing our tail feathers off this week in SW Virginia.  It has been below freezing everyday this week and today they are calling for more snow.  Not a lot, 1-4".  Enough to send everybody and their brother to the grocery store for toilet paper and milk!

Last weekend my sister and I celebrated our Birthdays!  She was born of January 20th and I was born on January 22.  5 years and two days apart.

Not the greatest photo of her but I think she was happy with her 1970's green chip and dip set that she wanted.  I also got her a Susan Branch recipe book, and an olive oil dispenser.  She got me some seed starting medium, a Tammy Doll dress pattern, and the most incredible cake carrier ever!  I will get photos of it up next week.  It deserves it's own post!  And it has a funny story to go with it!

(Can you spot what I pulled out of the barn in the background of this photo???  Hint.  it was mine when I was little and has been stored for about 40 years..It will get it's own separate post too.)

Cold weather doesn't stop Yngwie from fishing!  He caught this nice bass last weekend!
