Friday Show and Tell

Good Morning! Kelli at http://kellishouse.blogspot.com/ is hosting Show and Tell Friday. Click over and join the fun.
Today I would like to show you 4 of my most favorite books. I am definitely a bookworm and am on the lookout for books everytime I go to a thrift store or yard sale.

The first book is a very worn copy of The Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening by J.I. Rodale and Staff. This copy is dated 1959. This is my gardening "Bible"! You can look up anything garden related alphabetically. I spend untold hours during the winter reading this book.
The second book is a really cute book by Rebecca McCann, called the Cheerful Cherub. My copy is dated 1947. This book is filled with absolutely adorable pictures of the Cherub with cute little poems for any occasion.
One of my favorite little poems is called Food:
"When work seems rather dull to me
and life is not so sweet,
One thing at least can bring me joy
I simply love to eat"
The third book is a very beautfiul book by Howard Chandler Christy called "The American Girl". This book was in a box of books that I bought at an auction once for $1.00 for the entire box of books. This copy is dated 1906.
The book has photos very much like the "Gibson" girls. There is a section called The American Girl in the Coiuntry, The Debutane, The Bride, etc. The photos is this book are just beautiful.
The last book is another very beautiful book. It is called The Song and Garden Birds of North America. It was put our by National Geographic and mine copy is dated 1964.
The color photos is this book are frame worthy. It shows photos and descriptions of practically every bird in this country and at the back of the book there is a little booklet that has some very flimsy vinyl records that plays the birds songs. I have played the little record and it is so neat!
I hope you enjoyed my Show and Tell!

Hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed weekend!

Linda

I do so love books!!!! My friend got me a 1st edition of Gone With the Wind when I was going into the hospital for heart surgery this last time....they're ALL so wonderful. In fact when we go to used book stores and antique shops, that's where I spend a lot of my time...near the OLD books. There is just something about 'em. [My hubby LOVES the Gibson Girls!!!]

My show n tell is posted, won't you drop by for a visit? I love visitors!! ;o)

I love all your books!!! I have the exact same cherub book! I keep it with all my Valentine decorations and just came across it yesterday. I will have to pull it out and read the cute poems! I love old books too and have way too many, but when it is time to get rid of them, I just can't bring myself to do it! I would like to make a library in my house!

Take care! Sharon

Thanks for the comment you made on my blog. Yes, the dress does look white in the photo, but it was always blue. I'm amazed that it has not faded in all these years. I love your books. Until I got down to the one published in 1906, I thought, boy, I'm older than all these old books. About Charles, I never could tell for sure which of us he liked the best. I think it was about equal.

I too love books. What wonderful finds you have there. I especially love the cherb book of poems. Thank you also for stopping by and visiting my show & tell today. My heritage scrapbook was one of the hardest ones to do because of all the research, but it was the most fulfilling one I have done yet.

Please stop by and visit often!

You won't believe this, but I have a book almost identical to your bird book--it has a little record too--it is called song birds and it is an oldie too :) I will have to share it soon, so you can see it. I adored all the books you shared today, thank you.

Oh you have lovely books. They are wonderful. I am so happy for you. The bird one has such beautiful artwork, and the songs must be so pretty.

Thanks for stopping by my place. Yes, I do need to take another picture on the porch. We celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary this year.

Oh, I also loved your post about your birthday. The purple frosting is so cool. Hugs ~ Kathi

What fabulous books, especially the 1906 Gibson Girls type one. I cannot resist books (particularly old horsey and countryside books). I have a houseful! Jennie
