Estate sale finds!

Last Friday I took the day off from work for two reasons. #1- to spend the day shopping with Yngwie for his back to school supplies, and #2 - to go to an Estate sale!

They had so many retro/vintage items! It was like going back to 1950! I managed to control myself and only bought a few goodies.
I loved these vintage books. They are actually quite large and the pictures in them are so colorful and cute!
Que, Sera, Sera - Anyone remember the beautiful and talented Doris Day?? I love her and loved these paperdolls. Look at all the beautiful dresses!
In the same box with the childrens books, were these fabulous (and some no so fabulous) patterns.
Believe it or not, all of them are in my size with the exception of the childrens patterns. There is a pattern with several embroidery iron-ons, that is going to my friend Diane. Diane G, if you are reading this they are going on top of your ever expanding pile of books!
I did the Happy dance when I spotted this pixie ash tray. It is even blue!!!! He is so pensive looking. Wonder if he is thinking about the dangers of smoking???
How about this adorable pixie planter!!! And this little guy. I'm not sure if he is a elf or a doll or just a...I don't know what. But, he had the cutest little impish grin that I had to have him, whatever he is! (opps, his belt is coming off!)
Then there was this beautiful Bible. It is covered in mother of pearl and is really beautiful. However, I have left a message with the woman who ran the sale to see if the family wants this as there is stuff written inside:
I can't imagine selling something with this written in it.
See the photo of Yngwie at the top?? Today is the first day of his senior year!! I am so proud of him I could just bust!!!! He is such a blessing to me and his Dad.
Blessings and have a great week!
Linda

When I was a girl, school didn't start until after Labor day. I hope Yngwie has a good year!

Wow!!! You got so many wonderful things at the estate sale. I'm so excited for you. I love the vintage books. And who doesn't love Doris Day. I've been a HUGE fan of hers since I was a little girl. I loved the movie, Glass Bottom Boat. Remember that one? What a cool Bible! And your doll, well, I'm going with elf. It would be cute for a retro Christmas decoration.

Your son is very handsome. I like his strat guitar in the prior post. Estate sales, crafts, salsa, guitars....We could be real good friends :)

Hi Linda, I have been thinking of you and there you are on my comments today. It was this time last year that I had my first knee replacement. I was also thinking of our Halloween swap and how much fun it was to send yours and receive mine. Our grandson is starting his senior year too. Yugwie is so handsome and I would be proud of him too. I as thinking of him eating the plum preserves just the way Bill ate that bag of nuts you sent. LOL. Like there was no tomorrow

Your estate sale purchases are terrific. I love Doris Day too. the pixie items are adorable and that one little guy could be an elf maybe. At any rate I know you had fun with those

Thank you for the compliment on my bedroom. I have been changing things around in there and tweaking it. I have been in the decorating mood.

have a great day.

Hi Linda. Those are great finds at the estate sale. I alway get a little sad at estate sales because I know that the person or person to who these things belonged to is now gone. I do though, always buy something and each time I use it, I think of them and who they were and what did they do, etc. ::sigh::
On another note, as for the chile preserving. You know what I do? I was them and separate the diffeent types of chili, dry them and put the different kinds of chili in their own small sandwich bags and then I put all the bags in a huge 12 gallon plastic bag. (restuarant type bags) I freeze them just like that. They are good as ever when unfrozen and I do the same with tomatoes, bell peppers (I do slice these). Freeze your cayenne, they'll be okay. On the tomatoes, they can only be used for sauces, soups etc. Not good for sandwiches when unfrozen. Try it. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Well, first, best of luck to your son! Senior year is so much fun. My youngest just graduated high school and starts at the local college next week. The years go by waaay too fast!

Of course I remember the lovely Doris Day. "Que Sera, Sera" comes from the Alfred Hitchcock thriller "The Man Who Knew Too Much," also starring Jimmy Stewart. If you've never seen it, grab a copy from the library. It's a classic!

Looks like you had a very enjoyable estate sale there! Did you get to keep the bible? (I mean, did they really intend to sell such a beautiful and personal book?) Yes, I remember Doris Day and we still have Calamity Jane on video!
