This week my show and tell is about a warm, fuzzy, feeling I get when I look at these Ken-L-Ration Dog and Cat salt and pepper shakers.
When I was little, I loved to go to my Grandparents house in the country and would sometimes stay a week or two. There was a creek that you had to cross to get to their house and the soil around it was very sandy. One of my favorite things to do was "play in the sand". In Grandma's basement there was a box of broken dishes and a pair of cat and dog salt and pepper shakers that Grandaddy had gotten out of a bag of Ken-L-Ration dog food. These items were my "dishes". I would play for hours each day, making my dolls pies, cakes, all sort of confections made entirely from sand.
As I grew older I quit playing in the sand:( and one day when I was around twenty, I went down in the basement looking for my dishes. They were gone! Grandaddy had thrown them out years ago. I was so disappointed. I really wanted the cat and dog salt and pepper shakers.
A couple of years ago I took my grandmother to a doll show and while I was looking around I spotted my dog and cat! (well, not really mine, but a pair just like them). I bought them on the spot for a ridiculous price, but I had to have them. Other than my "real dog" had an ear missing, they are exactly the same.
I keep these in my hutch in the kitchen and actually put them on the tree as ornaments this year. They remind me of my carefree days playing in the sand at my grandparents.

This very old ornament belonged to my Grandmother (who is 95 years old!) when she was a child. It was given to her at a Sunday school Christmas party. Over the last 90 years time and use has taken a toll on it. After this year, I am going to frame it and keep it out all year long.
Have you ever seen one of these on a tree??? Yngwie place this "binky" on the Christmas tree 14 years ago, when he was two, and it has gone on the tree every year since.
This old Santa also belonged to my Grandmother. This was given to her by her aunt.
Any child of the late 1960's early 1970's remember her? It's Dawn! I love small dolls and used several of them on my tree. 
I guess I got a little heavy handed with my ornaments this year and ran out before I finished decorating all the way around. So I pondered for a moment, what could I use to finish the tree? Then it hit me! I ran into my craft room and pulled out a couple of boxes of Happy Meal toys, twisted floral wire around them and hung them on the tree! That is why Dora The Explorer is hanging from my tree.
This is our family room tree. Mostly Hallmark ornaments, but also some handmade and vintage ornaments as well. I have never been able to figure out how to take a good picture of the tree with just the Christmas lights on with my digital camera. It always turns out blurry. 
So for the next 26 years I began a search for the blue and white loving cup vases. I looked at every antique store, every flea market, everywhere from Pennsylvania to Georgia. I never ever saw them. Every day I checked Ebay, but no luck.Then as fate would have it, this past spring, my husband checked ebay, not even looking for the blue or white vase and he found the blue one! I was estatic! I placed a huge bid on it but ended up only paying $19.00 for it with shipping! Now I only needed to find the white one.
During our vacation, which we didn't go anywhere except local attractions, we were walking past an antique store downtown, not really planning to go in, then my husband says "I don't believe it". Sitting right on top of a chest in plain view was the white loving cup! 
Finally, after 26 years of searching, I have all three! I love the shape and color of these vases. I guess so much that I actually have 3 of the blacks ones!
These cones that I made are just hanging in my craft room for the time being. They are waiting be filled with candy, mini flashlights, pencils, and a handmade Halloween bracelet, to give to my co-workers.
These little spooks sit in my kitchen.
Mr. Jackolantern adorns my dining room table. He is pretty special as he is the very first Halloween decoration that I bought after I got married. 27 years ago.
Frankie here, has to sit in the corner of the front porch! He is quite gruesome. Yngwie saw him at the store when he was about 4 years old and had to have him! He carried him around with him for weeks, this thing was taller than he was! Every year when I start putting out fall and Halloween decorations, he reminds me to get our Frankie!
And lastly, while this really isn't a "fall decoration", I love the way my house looks with the flowers blooming in the fall. I know most people don't really like marigolds, but I do. I love their beautiful fall colors and their pungent smell reminds me of fall.
This is the plate that started it all. I really love how the blue seeps into the white on this piece.
These two pieces are very blue (though this photo makes them appear "bluer" than they really are). I use the pitcher mostly for flower arrangments as it has a small chip on the spout.
This isn't a very good photo of this plate, but this is my very favorite because it belonged to my great grandmother. I have 6 plates, the creamer and sugar, a covered vegetable dish and a gravy boat. My grandmother gave me this set of dishes about 20 years ago. I actually use them on very special occasions.
Well you probably have guessed by now that I cheated. I just squinted my eyes and watched her hide all the pumpkins! When she told everyone GO! I ran right to all the hiding places and found the most pumpkins, so I got the haunted house!
I dismantled our guest room and my husband built the cabinets! The cabinets are oak and the counter top is a laminate called "Butternut". I have under the counter lighting which I LOVE!
Now I have easily available spaces for my craft supplies. I was forever re-buying things that I already had but couldn't find.
I have all my scrapbooking and paper crafting supplies in one area and all my sewing supplies in another. The lady in the picture is my great aunt Clara. She taught me to crochet and tried very hard to teach me to sew, but I was more interested in climbing trees and playing football. My mother in law finally taught we to sew when I was about 22. 
The bookcase holds all my craft and sewing books, along with some Mary Englebreit, Martha Stewart Living and Country Living magazines. My In-Laws gave me the old timey radio for Christmas one year. I think it goes great in this room.
Last but not least is my cutting table. This table came from my Grandma's attic when she lived in the country. It was in the attic when she moved into the house in 1947. I used this for my kitchen table for almost 25 years, then when we remodeled the kitchen and put in a bar to eat from, I moved the table to my sewing room. I love this table. (The Strawberry under the table belongs to my great niece! and the bowl and pitcher is something I just have'nt found a home for yet. It belonged to my great aunt Clara.
They are very simple. All you need is a pretty plate, a glass candlestick and some glue that bonds glass.
Find the center of the bottom of your plate and mark it with a marker. Spread the glue on top of the candlestick and just stick it on and let it dry 24 hours. That's it! This is what I am going to make to put my Christmas goodies on this year. I got the plate and the candlestick at a thrift store for .50 each. So for $1.00 you have a lovely gift! 
She even put the bead details on the dolls dress.
My husband made a case for her and she proudly sits in our dining room.
I love this bowl too. I use it every time we have a family get together, and always with green beans in it.
Do any of you still use one of these? It is for bacon grease. My Mom always kept one on the stove and whenever she needed to flavor something, like green beans, cabbage, etc. She would use the grease in this kind of container. I thought nothing of it when I was young, but thinking about it now, it seems kinda yuck!
These little childrens cups did not come from Aunt Maggies home. I found them at a flea market and just had to have them. They are so cute!
