Apron Strings and Other Things

I'm still playing with my header, not exactly like I want it, but it's getting there.

Last week one of the ladies in my office mentioned that she had moved into a apartment that had a washer but no dryer and she was hanging her clothes out on the clothesline. She said she just stuck the clothes pins to her shirt, so I decided to make her a clothespin apron. My Grandmother had one very similar to the one I made her.

It was very fun to make and quick and easy! She didn't want her face on my blog, but that's her holding up her new apron!

My flowers are still continuing to just bloom away, even though I have neglected them this spring. I think this flower is called a Gloriosa Daisy. I am terrible about planting things then forgetting what they are.

And this rose is one that I dug up from an old abandoned house foundation many years ago. It is always so reliable, and is so disease free. It seems that the roses that I buy that claim to be disease free are always the ones that need so much attention!

My Grandmother is still not doing very good. We had to take her to the yesterday because she was having trouble breathing. Turns out she has a blood clot in her lungs. The doctor said blood clots are fairly common after surgery and that they would be trying to dissolve this before it starts moving. She also has a UTI and for someone 96 years old, that is miserable.

I am still making new recipes from my old cookbook. The photo below is one I made Sunday, simply called Peanut Butter Bread. Isn't it such a pretty loaf? Too bad it tasted YUCKY!!!! It was way too dry and bland. The recipe didn't call for any sugar, but it sure needed it. I guess I was expecting it to taste like a cake and not a bread.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Blessings

Linda

Thanks for stopping by!

What a sweet thing to do for your co worker! I remember my mom using a similiar apron.

I will keep your grandmother in my thoughts and prayers. A UTI is no fun for sure! And I hope the clot dissolves quickly.

hugs, Linda

Hi Linda .. I'm cheering here .. good job. About the size. . I've had a hard time with the size from time to time too. Before you load your picture. . check to see if there is a little button that says shrink to size. .. you know in your layout. Let me know if that helps.

That was so kind of you to make that lovely apron for your co-worker! I bet she was deeply touched! The bread does look yummy...too bad it didn't taste as good as it looked! I've had my share of those recipes. Don't know if it's the recipe or me. :(

Oh and another idea. . you could change your template to the same but stretch version. The header will likely be the right length then. You can also .. .crop it less that one row deep .. then it would be thinner up and down. . am I just confusing you more? .. .lol.

What a fun apron *s* Oh I do hope your grandma starts finding some relief - it's just not fun at all when you don't feel well.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. It is nice to meet you. I read a few of your older post...your flowers sure seem to be blooming. Your recipes are yummy and who would not want that apron? Your pool area looks so inviting. We have a very limited pool time in New England, hopefully ours will be open soon.

Oh what beautiful roses - I like the old-fashioned ones too. It's a bit like my rambler, Crimson Showers.

Loved the pinny too - SO useful with the peg pockets on. I think my mum had one very similar too.

At last they have found out your grandmother's problem, and I hope that in busting the clot and sorting the UTI, she will soon be on the mend again. What a worry for you all though.

How nice of you to make the lady an apron. I love it. And the rose bush is beautiful.
I have never had peanut butter bread but if you only knew how much I LOVE peanut butter.

Your clothes pin apron is a great idea. I have a chothespin holder thats shaped like a little girls dress with a hole in front for the pins. It hangs on a clothes hanger so can be jung on the clothesline or in the closet.
Sorry about your peanutbutter bread. I made that about 55 years ago when I was in middle school. Our recipe was slightly sweet and I liked it.If you try your recipe again you could add some sugar or honey.

Your grandma has gone through a lot. I pray the blood clot will dissolve quickly.

I forgot to mention that I have a rose bush that looks just like the one you posted. Mine came from a field I used to walk past when going to school. This is an old rose and each stem has a multitude of lovely pink/red blossoms and they are very fragrant. Mine is hardy too and has never gotten any disease.
It's fun to see that someone else has one.

I hate it when I try a recipe and it looks so good but doesn't taste good. I remember clothes pin aprons. I use to help my mother hang clothes when I was a kid and after I got married I didn't have a clothes dryer for several years. I remember how we had to run a damp cloth over the lines before we started hanging to remove the dust. I like the smell of clothes dried on a line, but I sure like the convenience of throwing them in the dryer and turning it on.
