Signs of Fall Long Ago

I love this photo of my grandfather. It embodies everything he was. His real job was a prison guard at the correctional center that adjoined their farm. But his favorite job was farmer. Each fall as soon as turkey season started I would call him everyday (long distance) to find out it he had gotten a turkey yet. He would tease me and say "no, I guess we will just have to buy one of those frozen things from the supermarket". But I knew that wouldn't happen! Every year for Thanksgiving me would be having wild turkey and pheasant. He loved to hunt and we ate everything that he killed. I grew up eating wild turky, pheasant, rabbit, squirrel, etc. It was just a way of life for me.

He and grandma also grew the most unbelievable garden in the world. Would you look at the size of that pumpkin! If you look closely at the base of the bird bath there is some indian corn. Grandma grew this every year.

I always get a little misty eyed when I look at these photos. I really miss my grandparent and their farm, but I feel so blessed to have had them for as long as I did.

Hoping everyone has a wonderful day!

Linda

Linda, I love your post about your grandpa and his farm. Look at the size of that turkey and the pumpkin.
The Indian corn too. That photo is so special. We ate lots of wild game when we lived on our farm too.

Your pumpkin man did slip into my picture of the mantel. I couldn't resist putting him up there. I have lots of surprises to share in Oct. thanks to you. Smile.

I didn't make the mantel scarf but I copied it and made a Christmas one just like it. I'll have it up at Christmas. I love the look.

Thanks for visiting me.

Love and Hugs, Jeanne.

Hey Linda I'm back to tell you thanks for your comment on the border. I love it too, and I don't care if borders are out of style. It is my dining room sort of. I have a large country kitchen and not a formal dining room. My table is 9 feet long, a harvest table with black chairs. I will post it later. In fact if you scroll back to the wedding shower for my great niece on August 17th the table and chairs are in that post.

Hugs, Jeanne again!

I do believe times were better back then. That is a great picture, thanks for sharing it.

BTW, I just recently found your blog and I'm really enjoying it. Especially the apple butter story. We intend to make some with our grandkids soon.
