How does your garden grow??

T.G.I.F!!!! We made it!  It's Friday!

Have any of y'all been gardening yet?  I know some of you way up north like KimK are probably just seeing green grass!
Here is a view of my greenhouse.  Those tomatoes are getting beyond ready to be planted.  They are heading outside tonight to start the "hardening off" process and I will get them in the ground in a couple of weeks.
Do you know what plant this is?  It's an artichoke!  I have never planted artichokes before, but I love them and decided to give them a try this year.
These bad boys are going in the garden this weekend.  They are leeks!  I have never grown leeks before either but I do like them in soups.
These are the cutest tomato plants ever.  They are called Mini-belles.  The plant doesn't get very large and the tomatoes are cherry tomatoes.  I can't wait to see how this produces.
Meanwhile, the early crops are doing well in the garden.  I have 5 kinds of radish, 4 kinds of lettuce, kale, spinach, and onions.  The potatoes are being grown in wooden bins that you see at the side.
Isn't this lettuce so pretty?
Guess what I am having for lunch today?  Salad from my garden.  These are very small radishes that I pulled when I was thinning them yesterday.

This weekend is our towns annual Dogwood Festival and Dear Husband and Yngwie are pulling their boats through the parade.  They are part of a club called Classic Hot Boats and when they heard the town was having a hard time finding participants for the parade, they decided to join it.
This is Dear Husbands boat.  I like them well enough on land, but it really scares me when they race them.  I'm biting my nails until they are back on the trailers!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Blessings

Good Morning!

It is a bright and beautiful day today in SW Virginia.  We are only supposed to get up to 62 today but that is just perfect.

Did everyone have a great Easter day?  We sure did!  As usual no celebration is complete in our home without a ton of food!  I had 7 people for lunch and you could hardly tell anything was touched!  But it was soooo good!
See what I mean!  Makes me hungry just looking at it!
Check out those deviled eggs!  I dyed the white of the eggs before I filled them with the yellow mixture.  I saw the idea on Pinterest.  They were so pretty.  And that yellow and green ferris wheel used to belong to my boss when he was little.  He gave it to me when Yngwie was only 1, so that I could use it for his birthdays.  I have never seen another like it.
How about some birds nests?  I made some of these with the chow mien noodles and some with potato sticks.  Have I made you hungry yet?
Of course I colored a few boiled eggs that my son and husband devoured for breakfast.
Look what the Easter Bunny brought me!  YUM!  I will be eating on this thing until Halloween!
The Easter stockings were a big hit and were really fun to put together.
And while this is a terrible picture of me, here is me, my Dad and my sis.  I love my dad soooo much and am so blessed that he is still with us.  He will turn 80 next month and still rides his Harley Davidson motorcycle.  I hope I will be just like him!

I have been doing lots of sewing!  I made 3 pairs of shorts, that I call knock around shorts.  Just made with some bits of fabric I had laying around and are pull on, just to wear around the house and garden in.  I also made a really cute vintage dress and a pair of charcoal gray capris, though I haven't take a photo of either of them, maybe I will this week.  Last night I cut out a swim suit.  It is from a 1970's pattern and is more of a swim dress.  I can't wait to get it sewn!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!  Happy Humpday!

Blessings

Hippity Hoppity Easter's on it's way!

Good Friday morning everyone.  It is Good Friday.
My table is set with my antique blue and cream dishes.
Centerpiece in place and bowls ready to be filled.
Lots of Bunnies and eggs...
This beautiful bunny lives on my kitchen island.  He can't wait until the parsley is planted.
The Easter tree brightens up my kitchen.  I will miss it when it comes down.
Lots of jelly beans? Check!
My Happy Cabinet all decked out.  It's not crooked, just a wonky photographer.
Isn't this table scarf beautiful?  It was part of some lovely gifts that Pam at Virginia Retro sent to me.  She is the sweetest lady!
Dessert table, properly clothed and awaiting pies and cakes.
More Easter decorations.  Pam, I think you and I own the very same teal glass basket.
Pam also sent this beautiful doll...
Do y'all like picked eggs?  Most people say yuck but they are a tradition in our family.  My Dad always makes them and puts them in a pink depression glass cookie jar that belonged to his grandmother.  Unfortunately, this year the jar is missing.  We don't know if my Step-monster gave it to one of her kids or if she broke it.  But it can't be found.  I just put mine in a mason jar until time to serve them.

Easter Menu
Coca Cola Glazed Ham
Scalloped Potatoes
Broccoli Casserole
Macaroni Salad
Glazed Carrots
Corn Pudding
Roasted Brussels Sprouts
Deviled Eggs
Rolls
Lemon Supreme Pie
Chocolate Cupcakes
Tea
Lemonade

Am I missing anything?

Wishing you a great weekend and a HAPPY EASTER!

Blessings

Estate sale goodies!

Good Monday Morning!  What an incredible, beautiful and warm weekend we had!  Was it pretty in your neck of the woods?

I took 1/2 a day off from work Friday because I had a lot of errands to run, one of them being to an estate sale that looked like it might have a few treasures and it didn't disappoint.  The first thing I grabbed were these wonderful vintage patterns!

I loved all of these!  I especially love the one that's the tennis dress because I think I can turn that into a swimsuit that I will wear.  I am very uncomfortable in swimsuits because I am so tall and leggy, so one with shorts or a skirt works best.
After rummaging in a box in the basement I found this mechanical Santa who walks and rings his bell, though he doesn't work very well, but I still liked his face and knew he belonged with me.

And you know I couldn't leave this little guy there!  Yay!  One more pixie to add to the collection.  Don't you just love his ears?
I don't collect sifters, I don't collect sifters, I don't collect sifters.
I have 3, is that a collection?  Look at the colors of this, turquoise and gold.
These may have been my favorite find.  Christmas Idea books that date from the mid 1950's to the late 1960's.  You have no idea how much I have loved looking at those!
And a couple of Needlecraft and House and Garden, all from the early 1970's, which I don't consider antique at all as I remember those days quite fondly, thank you very much!

I spent my afternoons this weekend sewing and have 3 pairs of shorts and a new dress to show for it, though I haven't taken photos of them yet.  But it was so nice to throw open the windows and sew and sew.

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Easter Wreath

Happy Hump Day!  It's a pretty, sunny day today in SW Virginia.  Spring has finally sprung!

Last weekend I went to 3 estate sales and all were pretty much a bust.  I did find two huge boxes of a Sunbonnet Sue Quilt and a Teddy bear quilt, all cut out and ready to sew with all the fabric to finish them.  I bought those for my cousin who is a quilter.  I bought myself 2 cookbooks ( I needed like a hole in the head) one small glass pixie and 5 vintage patterns.  Nothing Earth shattering.
I did make an Easter wreath for my front door.

I found the grape vine wreath at the Goodwill and all the flowers and eggs came from the Dollar store.
Kind of hard to take a photo without getting myself in it!  This one is really weird because you can see the back of the wreath reflecting in the mirror inside, along with yours truly.  See me? Hi!

I also found this hilarious garden flag
Hee hee!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Cloche Swap!

Good Friday Morning!  It has been a beautiful week here is SW Virginia and the weekend is looking good too.  I am so enjoying all the trees and flowers blooming, it's just beautiful!

I am so glad that I joined Sandy at 521 Lake St 's cloche swap.  What a fun idea to take dollar store plastic wine glasses and turn them into mini cloches!  I was lucky enough to get paired up with my fellow Virginian Pam who blogs at Virginia Retro!  I got my package this week and was just blown away by her generosity and thoughtfulness.
Look at all this "Springy" stuff.  That little rabbit head ornament is adorable. He is hanging on my Easter tree now!
Isn't this the cutest cloche!  I love the tulle and Easter egg at the top, so frilly!
So much fun stuff!  I love the little wooden rabbits and carrots and I know that seam binding will come in handy.
See that Cookies 'N Cream Bunny?  Good thing I took a photo of it because it's gone now!  I love the little book about what it means to be Southern.  Pam wrote a cute note that said "I wasn't born in the South but got here as quick as I could".  Too funny!
Beautiful lace and doilies and a decorated egg shaped box.
Flower seeds!  Can't wait until time to plant these.
Beautiful hanky and table scarf.  Love the colors!
This was the best of all!  Look at that Pixie Pin!  OMG!  I have worn it every day since I got it!  He is so cute and creepy, he's perfect!  And behind him is the cutest little bird that I have clipped to my Easter tree and some beautiful springy ribbon.

I have had such a great time this week, tweaking my Spring and Easter decorations with all this goodness that Pam sent me.  She is such a sweetie and I am so glad I have gotten to "know" her through blogging.

I am headed to a couple of Estate sales this weekend, last weeks were a bust, I came home empty handed.  I am also planning on cleaning and decorating my front porch for Spring.  It looks so forlorn and deserted right now.  Everything needs to be cleaned and get a coat of paint to freshen it up.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Blessings
