Over the many years of my "thrifting" I have run across several books on fashion and care of clothing. It is amazing the changes in what is considered modest or acceptable.
I love this book from 1923 called "Clothing- Choice, Care and Cost"
Look what was inside! A dried flower, obviously very special to the young lady who owned this book. Wonder what the occasion was? Was it from her beau? I will never know.
There is also a newspaper cut out of a pair of bloomers on the same page. Hmmmm.
Apparently, a group called the General Foundation of Womens Clubs met in 1914 at the Biennial convention and passed a resolution calling for more standardization in womens dress. They desired clothing that was more modest, simple, and better designed. They were tired of the constantly changing styles. Here is their answer to that:
This is the standard dress designed to stay in style, be modest and comfortable. I would totally wear that today!
This is the housedress that could easily be made following he cutting layout shown. It would be comfortable, nice looking, and not impede your movements as you go about your daily activities.You could add the overlay for a more dressy look then add embroidery for a more personal look.
The book also gives you a list of the clothing items you should have and how often you should buy them. Have all of you bought your corset? How about your summer petticoats? If not, get busy, the year is almost up!I think the Foundation of Womens Clubs needs to have another meeting. They need to declare that there should be no more bare midriffs, slouchy pants with underwear showing, pj bottoms in public, and jeans so tight you can't breathe. Anyone agree?

I have been taking them out of the albums and sorting. My technique is to put all the photos of my Grandmother in one pile, all the photos of just my Grandfather in another, photos of me and my family in another, and so on. The problem that I have ran into is one that I believe is universal for anyone going through a loved ones pictorial memories. I have no idea who some of these people are! Nothing is labeled on the back or if they are labeled, I still don't know if they are a relation or friend or her brothers friends sisters boyfriend!
Yngwie had gone out to Target afterschool on Friday and bought all this stuff for me! There is a Kelli doll, a Pez, and a pumpkin bucket full of Hershey Kisses and Skittles. How thoughtful is that??? He is such a sweetie! Next week he will turn 17 years old. Time flies whether you are having fun or not!

When I was little I used to play with this three legged glass camel when I was at her house. She said she had gotten it when she was young, that she thought candy had came in it and can't remember when the 4th leg broke off, but that it happened way before I was born and she had no idea what had happened to it. I loved this camel and would play with it for hours, even taking it to bed with me.
It didn't dawn on me right away what this was, but when it did, I was flabbergated! I just sat down in the floor and cried. It is the 4th leg of the camel. The broken one.
Welcome to my foyer. I love the antique mirror and decorate it for each season. Sorry for the bad photo, it's hard to take a photo of a mirror and not be in it!
The kitchen is always the heart of the home, so I always decorate my kitchen so that when I look around, I always find something to smile about. Like the halloween candy on my island.
I also have a fall flower arrangement and a Jim Shore pumpkin man on the island as well.
My very favorite thing in my kitchen is the hutch that my husband made. It is chock full of fall and Halloween fun.
I made the Boo banner and Halloween cones that hang on my plate stand.
I love this beaded pumpkin that I received in my Halloween swap as it sits on this little antique table. I made the pointy kitty from the Wee Wonderful site.
This antique washstand has been many things in its life. I bought it when I was expecting Yngwie and used it for a changing table. I used it in my living room as a end table and now it wears its fall colors living in my dining room as a buffet. I really have this thing for white pumpkins this year.
Everything was wrapped so pretty! It was so exciting opening all the gifts in the box!
Look at this!!! I was running around the room, jumping and squealing like a kid at Christmas!
These little leaf candle holders are so cute and the pumpkin pie candles, yum!
The beaded pumpkin is just lovely and the wheat arrangement is perfect for my dining room. I love the patchwork pumpkin lady with her plaid patched dress and twig arms.
There was also a darling notepad, some cookie cutters, a pumpkin carving knife, a pumpkin windsock, a ghost candleholder and candle, a really cute pumpkin votive candleholder, some orange lights (that I have added to the arrangement over my fireplace mantle), a cute little scarecrow pumpkin, a pair of Halloween socks, some candy corn (gone in about 2 hours) and a fall dishtowel! And last but not least a jar of yummy preserves!
These are also gone! Yngwie was eating these out of the jar with a spoon! 
I am a huge Halloween fan so, I always use the pottery Jack o Lantern filled with fall colored stems for my centerpiece. I have had Mr. Jack o Lantern for 28 years now. I got him the first year we were married. I actually don't use placemats for fall. I love the dark, rich look of the mahogany table. The plates are ones I bought several years ago at Wal*Mart of all places! They were on clearance for $1.00 each! The are a beautiful moss green with leaves embossed around the edges. See those red candle sconces? I bought them a couple of weeks ago at a thrift store for .50 each. Instead of putting tapers in the black candle holders, I put the sconces in and love the look. (Please ignore the matches on the table, duh!)
Autumn isn't complete in our family until I make this delicious Pumpkin Roll. It is really easy to make, is delicious, and looks spectacular on your dessert table.
